A sparse area in the north-east of the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia is set to become the home of a leading global solar farm. 

The Cultana solar farm, an initiative of SIMEC Energy Australia – a member of the GFG Alliance – will become a cutting-edge 280 megawatt capacity solar farm, and benefit from the expertise of Shanghai Electric, who will provide engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) for the project. 

Cultana will deliver a range of benefits to the local community, boosting local employment and increasing the reliability and security of the state’s electricity supply.

The Solar Farm is the first part of SIMEC Energy Australia’s US$1 billion energy program in South Australia. The program also includes pumped hydro and battery storage projects.  

Executive Chairman of the GFG Alliance Sanjeev Gupta stressed the importance of tapping into global expertise for creating a cutting-edge solar site.  

“Cultana Solar Farm is an ambitious project that will deliver globally competitive renewable energy on a large scale to power heavy industry,” he said.
