Battling through Covid to build a positive future in Central & Eastern Europe

Our Central & Eastern European steel businesses (LIBERTY Galati, LIBERTY Ostrava and LIBERTY Częstochowa) showed the strength of their teams and the operational improvements they have made as part of LIBERTY Steel Group by each delivering strong performances for the first half of the year despite the challenges created by COVID.

In Romania, for the quarter ended 30 June 2021, LIBERTY Galati achieved its best quarterly results since 2008.  The business is currently in the process of increasing its production towards 3 million tonnes for the year, up from around 2 million in 2020. 

In the Czech Republic, for the same quarter, LIBERTY Ostrava achieved its best quarterly performance since 2011. The business is in the process of increasing its production towards 2.5 million tonnes for the year, up from around 1.7 million in 2020.

In Poland, LIBERTY Częstochowa achieved positive EBITDA of €7.1 million for the month of July, and the plant’s highest monthly production levels since 2017.
